WESTFIELDS were booted out of the FA Vase in the second round after going down 2-1 at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare.
Rainworth, unbeaten in their last eight North East Counties League matches, opened at a cracking pace without finding the net.
Keeper Jon Pugh produced a terrific save in the opening minute from Massiah McDonald.
The teams upped the tempo after the break and Rainworth broke the deadlock against the run of play on 50 minutes when Ian Clarke nodded in McDonald’s free-kick.
Daryl Addis fired in a quick equaliser after Mark Davis hit the post.
But Fields missed several chances to take the lead and were caught out by Clarke’s 20-yarder which squirmed under Pugh.
Pugh then saved a penalty from Clarke after Tom Sparey was sent off for an off-the-ball incident.
Meanwhile, Herefordshire club Wellington surprised higher-ranked Stratford with a 3-0 victory in the Vase.
