WORCESTER Wolves’ record of never having won on Tyneside continued with an 87-63 British League defeat at Newcastle Eagles on Friday.
The Eagles had lost their previous three games and Wolves made a good start as they came out of the blocks with an immediate 8-1 lead inside three minutes.
Early baskets from four of the Wolves starting five Skouson Harker, Harry Disy, Chey Christie and Evaldas Zabas boded well but the home side fought back with tenacity.
Wolves led 18-17 after the first quarter and by half-time they had edged in front 38-37.
Vidmantis Uzukurailitis hit 14 points and Randy George and Elvadas Zabas both finished with 13.
Newcastle split the game open with a 13-2 burst to end the penultimate quarter 64-51 in front.
Four home players contributed three-point maximums in the final period to cruise home.
