RICHARD Dryden is prepared for his players to pick up bookings if it means stopping teams scoring.
The City manager was unhappy with the way sub Andre McCollin was allowed to dribble his way into a position to set-up Matt Groves’ equaliser for Dorchester.
He believes his team should have seen the game out after Craig Wilding’s 54th-minute opener.
Dryden said: “When we are 1-0 up I think we have got to have bit more devilment in us.
“Their left-winger came on and skipped past two or three challenges and we needed a little bit more devilment to give a free-kick away, maybe take a booking and be a bit more professional.
“From 1-0 up I would like to think we would have gone on to take all three points, we had a couple of chances before they scored, but the weather dictated a lot and it’s probably a fair result.
“I think both sides adapted as best they could to the wind. You could almost get knocked over during the warm-up and I’m not a small person by a long way.
“It was strong and you could see with goal-kicks and passes.
“But, having said that, there was some decent football played and it was quite an entertaining game.
“The two goals were the best two passages of play for both sides. I thought ours was a well-worked goal in the conditions and so was theirs.”
Coupled with Weston-super-Mare’s surprise 3-1 victory over Dover Athletic, it is a result that leaves City out of the bottom three only by virtue of goal difference.
Dryden said: “The two results that have let us down are the last two home games. “We didn’t deserve anything against Welling because the work-rate wasn’t there and the commitment definitely wasn’t there, which isn’t like us.
“We are not the best team in the world but we usually work hard to get results.
“I think it was there again at Dorchester so we have just got to try to keep picking up points.”
Wilding, player-of-the-month for October, grabbed his fifth goal of the season and the manager said: “Craig had a bit of stick up front last year and to be the fair the majority of the fans have backed him that’s for certain.
“I’ve got faith in him, he’s steadily getting faith back in himself and five from midfield is a decent return.”
