EVESHAM United boss Paul West hopes the vast majority of his walking wounded will be fit in time to face Zamaretto League Premier Division leaders Farnborough at St George’s Lane on Saturday (3pm).

The Robins saw midfielder Michael Hayden taken to hospital last Saturday during their 2-0 victory at Didcot Town with a head injury.

Further injuries to defender Anthony Watson (thigh) and midfielders Mark Hands (shin), Steve Lutz, Steve Luckett (both ankle), Simon Fitter (dead leg) and Joe Cole (groin) mean the treatment room will be congested.

Hayden, Hands and Watson are almost certain to miss the league clash but West is optimistic over the other four players returning as the Robins search for their first home win of the season against the Hampshire outfit.

“It was a massive relief to get on the scoresheet and win at Didcot but it has come at a huge cost,” he said.

“We had a Worcestershire Senior Cup match on Tuesday night and, although we lost 1-0 to Stourbridge, I’m relieved there are no more injuries.

“The players showed a lot of commitment on Tuesday and I couldn’t fault them apart from giving away a sloppy goal.

“Now we have a massive test on Saturday. We haven’t won at home yet and Farnborough, the big-spenders of the league, are unbeaten.”

The Evesham chief is hoping to bring in two new faces ahead of the match.

While the Robins need new players in the short-term to cover injuries, West is not ruling out long-term signings.

“The first thing is to get cover for the injuries,” he said.

“But I am looking to add new faces and bring that extra quality to our side.

“There is no point bringing in players who aren’t going to improve my side.”
