MARVIN Brown is aiming to use his loan spell at Worcester City to rediscover his scoring touch.
The Weston-super-Mare striker has agreed a one-month stay at St George’s Lane and marked his debut with a goal in last Saturday’s defeat at Eastleigh.
Brown has an impressive record in non-league football having been the leading marksman at the Woodspring Stadium for two seasons before joining Salisbury in March 2007.
He was quick to establish himself at the Blue Square Premier club, netting 11 goals, but agreed to leave by mutual consent last summer to devote more time to his day job as a community coach at Bristol City.
Brown, a long-term transfer target of City manager Richard Dryden, returned to Weston and played 11 times without scoring before a hamstring injury struck.
The 26-year-old subsequently accepted a move to City to show he can still mix it with the best in Blue Square South.
He said: “I wanted to play games and Andy Gurney (Weston manager) asked if I was interested in going on loan.
“I knew Richard Dryden had been interested in me for a while and it was a move that seemed right for me at the time.
“I feel I should be playing week in, week out but I need to earn the place and that’s what I am trying to do at Worcester.
“At the moment I am trying to take it game by game and prove I can score goals at this level. If I do well enough, Weston will want me back and Worcester will want me to stay so I will have an option.”
Brown has started his City career in fine style with a 26th-minute equaliser in last Saturday’s 4-1 reverse in Hampshire and is expected to start alongside former Weston colleague Marc McGregor against Welling United today.
The striker said: “I have played with Marc for years, we know each other’s games so it was handy he went to Worcester just before I did.
“It’s not an easy league and most of the defenders are big and strong. Whoever I play with I need to link up with them straight away because there’s not much time to get used to it.”
Meanwhile, City will hold their latest fans’ forum after the home match against Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday, November 28 from 5pm in the Harry Knowles Lounge.
