WORCESTERSHIRE academy starlet Aneesh Kapil has been named in England’s initial Under 19 World Cup squad.
The 16-year-old right-hand batsman will be hoping for a happy new year when the final squad is named for the tournament in New Zealand, which begins on January 15.
Kapil, who is on a summer contract at New Road, has been with the County academy since he was 12.
The teenager was first placed on a scholarship by the club last year and academy director Damian D’Oliveira likened Kapil to current Worcestershire skipper Vikram Solanki.
Kapil made his second XI debut for Worcestershire on July 15, 2008 against Glam-organ in the Second Eleven Trophy — two days before he made his first County Under 17 appearance.
The youngster is also a regular for Wolverhampton in the Birmingham League Premier Division alongside New Road batsman Dave Wheeldon.
