VIKRAM Solanki insists that the Professional Cricketers Association will not rush into appointing a new chief executive.

The Worcestershire skipper is chairman of the PCA and has increased his responsibility with the players’ union following the resignation of former CEO Sean Morris last month.

But despite his extra role in the interim and being back in training with the New Road club, Solanki is keen to ensure that the organisation finds the right person, however long it takes.

“I couldn’t answer how long it will take us to find a new chief executive,” Solanki said.

“There is a whole process of identifying a candidate and then even the gap to identifying them and appointing that person and for them to take over the role is a bit of guess.

“But it will be beneficial to have that appointment as speedily as we can.”

Having been elected as the chairman of the union back in March, Solanki is enjoying his time at the helm of the PCA.

It has been an eventful period for the 33-year-old since taking over at the players’ union.

During his time as chairman, Solanki has been involved in discussions over the restructuring of the domestic game.

The Worcestershire skipper was disappointed to see the ECB scrap the 50-over format for the county game although it is still the international standard at present.

But, with Morris stepping down, Solanki has found that his time is now at a premium.

“It is keeping me busy,” he smiled. “It is challenging and I’m quite keen to go through the experience of it all.

“The organisation means a great deal to me as it does to a number of players.

“To find ourselves in the position we are in is not ideal, but my involvement is to hopefully help try and find the best solution.”
