MANAGER Richard Dryden has paid tribute to two Worcester City supporters who helped finance Marvin Brown’s loan move.
The striker has arrived from Weston-super-Mare for a month and scored on his debut in the 4-1 defeat at Eastleigh on Sat-urday.
However, Dryden was only able to drive the deal through after the fans, who he asked to remain anonymous, offered to dip into their pockets to bridge a gap in the player’s wages.
The manager said: “We don’t want to go too far over budget and it’s a big help. In the grand scheme of things it’s not a big bit of money but we needed it so I am very grateful.
“I haven’t asked the board for any money. Since I have been here we’ve never been over budget and I want to try and keep it like that. We are paying the vast majority of his wages, Weston have done a great deal on it which definitely helps, but the stalling point was a little bit of money. We are not talking lots, we are talkng a tiny bit and I will be eternally grateful to the fans if he keeps scoring.”
Brown was drafted in to re-place Rob Elvins, who started his three-match ban at the Silverlake Stadium, but is seen as a different style of player.
Dryden said: “I tried to sign Brown at the start of this season and at the beginning of last season. He comes alive in the box, his touch is decent and he links up play well.
“You can see when Rob doesn’t play because passes that come forward aerially sometimes come straight back and that’s what Rob gives us week in, week out. I wish he had been playing to combat the aerial threat.”
City host Welling United and Chelmsford City in the space of 48 hours next weekend and Dryden is keen to see his team bounce back.
He said: “Our home form has been a lot different this season and I am trying to put my finger on it.
“At home I think our tempo is a lot quicker than it has been away, especially at Eastleigh. I thought we should have got more out of the game at Hamp-ton than we did but on Saturday we fell flat and that happens.
“The best teams in the world get beaten now and again so we will look for a little reaction and I fully expect to get it next Saturday and Monday.”
