A MALVERN woman celebrated a decade of playing golf in style by being named the new ladies’ captain at The Worcestershire Golf Club.
Diane Wilde, who joined the town club with her husband Jim in 2000, will take up the role for the next 12 months.
She takes over from this year’s skipper Di Meakin after Wilde was her vice-captain.
Wilde, who plays off a handicap of 20, opened up her year at the helm with the traditional captain’s drive-in.
Born in Manchester, she moved to Malvern in 1978 to take up her first teaching post at Dyson Perrins School, where she taught biology for 28 years. She will be supported by Ann Moody, who will act as her vice-captain. Her chosen charity for the year is The Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.
A ladies section has been run at the club since 1891 and now boasts more than 140 members.
Wilde said: “I’m very honoured to be lady captain and my aim for the year is to make the year enjoyable for all members.”
