WORCESTER Wolves youngster Brandon Hitchman is aiming to break into the England Under 15s side just three years after taking up the sport.

The 14-year-old will attend a six-day final trial at the National Sports Centre in Lilleshall, Shropshire, at the end of November.

Hitchman, a 6ft 5ins forward, attended the Midlands regional trials last month where he was one of eight players to be put through to Lilleshall.

Now he is up against 39 other teenagers vying for a place in the national side.

“He is very dedicated,” said his father Carl. “He began playing while on holiday in America and it has gone from there.

“We got him to Worcester and he is playing for both the under 15s and the under 18s.”

Like many young basketball players, his ambition is to play professionally in the United States but there is a long way to go.

“Brandon would like to play in the NBA but his first aim is to secure a scholarship, either here or in the States,” Carl added.

“Perhaps he could get a scholarship at Worcester — that would be ideal then maybe he can break into the first team, but that is a big step.”

While Brandon, who is in his second season with Wolves, is setting his goals for the future, earning a place in the England team is the only thing he is thinking about for now.
