LARGE carp were a feature on the latest Halfway House AC contest which took place on Church Farm pool with Tracy Pegram netting a 19lb 8oz common to comfortably win the event.
Drawn on peg 17 on the brambles, Pegram offered red maggot over pellet feed in order to catch six carp for a 27-4-0 total, with her big common taking more than 90 minutes to land on light tackle.
Colin Bradley was some way behind Pegram in second with his net weighing 12-6-0, which included a carp near to double figures along with silver fish, all falling to maggot and meat over groundbait on peg 12. A small carp and skimmer net of 7-8-0 was enough to put Steve Jones into third place from peg 24, while in fourth was club star Richard Oliver weighing an all-silver fish catch of 6-8-0.
The previous contest held at Church Farm was won by Pete Jones with 21-6-0, runner-up was Oliver (17-8-0) with Steve Wilson (14-0-0) third.
Next match at Church Farm is a rod and reel only contest on November 8.
Southern exile Ron Eagle blitzed the opposition to win the recent Portobello contest on Hawford fisheries’ top pool.
His net of 63-10-0, consisting of a few carp to five pounds and lots of silver fish, was all taken on either the pole or the waggler with maggot on the hook.
Former WDUAA record-holder Mick Weston took the runner-up prize with a similar bag to Eagle going 44-14-0, pole and pellet being the successful combination.
Once again young Gray Brixton (Minicab) made the leader board, this time taking a level 40-0-0 of mainly carp on meat and corn to beat Alan Tibbetts (39-10-0) into fourth.
