MIKE Ruddock has taken Birmingham Solihull prop Ricky Davies on trial as he looks to find some respite for his beleagured front row.
The Warriors chief, who is without injured props Matt Mullan, Tevita Taumoepeau and Olivier Sourgens, will this week run the rule over the 29-year-old former Scarlets tighthead, who has also been on a two-week trial with Magners League side The Dragons.
The Worcester director of rugby said: “I am having a look at Ricky in training this week. He has played for the Scarlets in the past and has also just had a two-week trial with the Dragons, but he’ll spend the week with us.
“Birmingham Solihull are having problems at the mo-ment and a number of their players are looking around for other clubs.”
He added: “However, there is some good news with Tevita in that the two fingers he dislocated are not broken, so hopefully he shouldn’t be out for a long period of time.”
The financially-troubled Championship side have also recommended Worcester look at their sought-after flanker Chris Brightwell. The back-rower, who has recently spent time training with Gloucester, was highlighted to Ruddock by Bees player-coach Russell Earnshaw.
The Welshman said: “Russell has mentioned to me that Chris is a good player and someone that would be worth keeping an eye on. He spent some time training with Gloucester recently.”
Meanwhile, Ruddock would not be drawn on speculation that he is scouring the globe for a world-class scrum-half.
