WORCESTER Wolves rounded off a good week with a mauling of London Capitals for their first British Basketball League win of the season.

After triumphing at Essex Pirates in the cup and losing narrowly to Everton Tigers, Wolves shone with their stars being Lithuanian imports Evaldas Zabas and Vidmantas Uzkuraitis.

They were both on target early on to help the Wolves to a 10-0 lead in the first 90 seconds. Zabas finished with a game-high 25 points while his fellow Lithuanian was just one point behind him.

They contributed nine three-point efforts between them and both had a 100 per cent record from the free-throw line.

From the initial scoring burst, the Capitals never recovered and, at the end of the first 10-minute session, the Wolves were out of sight at 35-17.

Chey Christe contributed well at point guard and posted a double-figure score as did Skouson Harker.

Their visitors did claw back five points by half-time but Wolves took the third quarter by eight points to lead 74-53.

The home defence worked well to contain the Capitals to only 13 points in the third quarter.

As the final quarter unfolded, Harry Disy made 10 out of his 19 points.

The charismatic Frenchman also collected 11 rebounds off the glass as the Wolves won at a canter 98-80.

All the home players looked more confident and Simon Stewart’s development has been obvious under the influence of coach Chuck Evans.

Bench players Damien Cope and Roy Owen made significant contributions.

Evans said: “We played with lots of energy and effort, particularly in defence, but our margin of victory would have been more if we had done better offensively.

“This was our first win in the league this season and it was down really to the Lithuanian connection of Vidmantas and Evaldas who were outstanding.”
