EVESHAM United have now gone five games unbeaten in the Zamaretto League Premier Division after failing to claim victory over bottom side and managerless Rugby Town, without a league win all season.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Paul West’s side as they enjoyed the bulk of play, struck the Rugby woodwork twice but rarely tested a shaky Andrew Stevens in goal.
The blustery conditions made life difficult for both sides and offered little to excite Rugby’s lowest league crowd of the season.
Allando Davis and David Kolodynski tested Nathan Vaughan early on before the first clear chance fell Evesham’s way.
James Cooper made ground down the left before finding Justin Rowe, who crashed his shot against the post with Stevens beaten.
Liam Nicell came to Rugby’s rescue before the end of the half, clearing off the line from Jermaine Clarke.
The second-half continued with Evesham seeing plenty of the ball. Skipper Steve Lutz planted headers off target in quick succession, from Simon Fitter corners and then Stevens gathered from Cooper at the second attempt.
But with two minutes to go, Fitter went close to snatching the win. His free-kick, after Lutz had been fouled, beat Stevens but thumped against the crossbar.
Evesham: Vaughan, Watson, Hyde, Hodnett, Luckett, Lutz, Fitter, Clarke, Rowe (Woodley 86), Hands, Cooper (Ager 75). Subs not used: Cole, Walsh, Marusiak.
Attendance: 176.
