THE most prestigious competition in the Perdiswell Park Golf Club calendar, after the club championship, is the Secretary’s Bowl, an individual knock-out competition played over five rounds during the summer months.
In a close-fought final, which was decided on the 18th hole, Nathan Johnston won the day by two holes from Ashley Watkins, despite a good start by Watkins who took the first three holes.
On the day of the final, a tombstone competition was arranged and it was won by Adrian Crowley who ‘expired’ and left his tombstone on the 20th tee after completing 19 holes before running out of strokes. In second and third places were John Fogwill and Steve Williams who both left their tombstones on the 19th fairway.
In a mid-week par competition, Joe Jackson achieved a score of plus seven for victory. After adjustment, Clive Brown took second place from Arthur Kupfer after both finished on plus five.
In the final of the Bill Moore Trophy, a pairs competition with rounds played over the summer months, Jaz Bishop and Brown beat Phil Lane and Bernard Wood.
The Charity Cup saw Jackson winning again. His gross 39 placed him ahead of Cliff Hayes and Ted Holmes.
The October Shield was won by Geoff Edge with 39 stableford points. Johnston beat Lane (both 38) to second place on countback.
Phil Potts (39) won the women’s October medal.
