ON a fine autumn day, 150 golfers took to the course at The Worcestershire in pursuit of three trophies — all of which were age related.
The October medal was the last occasion for some months that competitors would experience the full length course, but several comfortably bettered the competition scratch score (CSS) of 72.
The three age-related trophies were the John Scott Cup for over 55s, the Ron Richards Cup for over 70s and the James Cup for under 55s.
All were named after former club members and the respective winners were Pete Sheward, Peter Bellamy and Clive Taylor.
Included in this competition was a another trophy, the Rabbit’s Cup, for golfers of higher than 20 handicap who have never won a club competition.
Jerry Hibbert, a member for many years, was victorious with 97-23-74.
A friendly match between the junior section and Malvern College marked the start of a new relationship between the two. Local knowledge prevailed in all five matches.
The juniors’ knock-out final saw a 2&1 win for Jordan Hick against Sam Watts — a reverse of last year’s result.
October medal, Division One: 1 Steve Kerry (77-11-66); 2 Colin Lane (77-10-67); 3 Pete Sheward (80-11-69).
Division Two: Clive Taylor (80-17-63); Alex Garwood-Gowers (86-17-69); 3 Keith Shouler (87-17-70).
Division Three: Phil Bayliss (91-18-73); 2 Peter Bellamy (97-23-74); 3 David Mackie (93-19-74).
