EVESHAM United return to league action on Saturday as they look to build on their FA Trophy success.

The Robins advanced to a second qualifying round tie at Northwood with a 2-0 replay victory against Windsor and Eton in mid-week.

Jermaine Clarke scored both goals for United and manager Paul West reckoned it was the best his side have played this season.

But he admits they can take nothing for granted at winless second-from-bottom Rugby Town on Saturday (3pm) in the Zamaretto League Premier Division.

West, who has committed his future to the club after being linked with the vacant hot-seat at Leamington, said: “We played some excellent stuff on Tuesday against Windsor, some of the best football we have played all season.

“Rugby may still be struggling but there is still some good quality there.

“We will have to be on our guard. The league is very tight.”

The manager has strengthened his squad by re-signing forward Danny Lennon from Stratford Town and midfielder Mark Hands has returned from Redditch United.

However, Lennon will miss the Rugby match as he serves a one-game suspension for five bookings picked up at his former club.

But midfielder Simon Fitter is back in contention having completed his one-match ban against Windsor and Eton.

West, though, is still looking to bring in more players with a trip to Cinderford Town in the Red Insure Cup first round following quickly on Tuesday night.

He added: “We need to bolster our squad a bit in terms of strength in depth. I’m working hard again to see if there is anyone in the market.

“Having Mark back for us, in particular, is a massive bonus.”
