EVESHAM United manager Paul West feels their home FA Trophy first qualifying round tie with Windsor and Eton tomorrow (3pm) can kick-start a “sluggish” season.

The Robins have been lifted by the return of striker Danny Lennon, who has re-signed after a spell with Stratford Town.

Veteran forward Duane Darby, striker Dan Polan and midfielder Chris Cornes have been shown the exit door at United over the last couple of weeks as West reshapes his squad.

The Robins boss believes a win in this weekend’s Trophy clash can also make up for their 1-0 defeat to Stourbridge in the FA Cup second qualifying round last month.

Evesham hope to take on-song Windsor and Eton to school at St George’s Lane but their opponents have been in good form.

They are third in Zamaretto League Division One South and West and unbeaten in their first eight games of the season in the competition.

Evesham defender Steve Hands is struggling to be fit for tomorrow’s clash after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

West said: “The season has been sluggish for us so far and we need to improve.

“The Trophy can kick-start our season. It’s a good diversion from the league.

“Windsor will be a tough game and we’re under no illusions about the challenge ahead of us.

“They have had a good start to the season and will have nothing to lose.

“We have not exactly hit the ground running this season. We need to start putting in some performances now.

“Getting back to basics has been important for us. A Trophy run would be good.”
