SKIPPER Jon Sprague put in a five-star display for Worcester men’s firsts as they won a 10-goal thriller in their BodyKraft Midlands League Division One clash against Sutton Coldfield.
Sprague struck five goals in the 6-4 victory in a match that the city had to come from 3-1 down to win.
The skipper opened the scoring with a penalty stroke before Sutton Coldfield took advantage of some sloppy defending.
The visitors went in at the break 4-2 up, Sprague getting his second, before strikes from young Chris Kendall, Matt Brace and three more from the skipper sealed a fine win.
The fourths crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Sutton Coldfield in the Central League Midlands Premier Division with Sam Glass on target for the city side.
The fifths eased to a 3-1 victory over Kings Heath fourths in South West Division One. Christian Holden fired them into the lead before second-half goals from skipper Paul Sharratt and Simon Tinley sealed the points.
The sixths recorded their first South West Division One win of the season with a 5-0 victory at Solihull Blossomfield with Ali Hill scoring all five.
The women’s firsts maintained their winning run with a 2-0 success at Bedford to keep them top of the Midlands Premier League.
Bedford started convincingly and pushed forward from the outset.
But against the run of play Worcester found a gap in the defence with an accurate pass from captain Rachel Creese, Elaine Shepperd fired home.
Bedford maintained the pressure in the second-half, but a fierce shot across the circle from Charlotte Roberts was met by Shepperd to reverse sweep into the goal.
Emma Hughes was named player-of-the-match.
Ellie Pardoe struck the equalising goal in the thirds’ 1-1 draw at Bromsgrove in Worcestershire League Division Three.
Having headed off to Trinity High School without several regulars after they were promoted to the second team, the thirds only just managed to raise a full side.
The hosts controlled the play from the first whistle as it took a little while for Worcester to settle into their unfamiliar positions.
However, despite Bromsgrove having the majority of the possession, their attacking runs were thwarted by the Worcester defence who time and time again denied the hosts the chance to shoot on goal.
After a goalless first-half, both sides played with a lot of determination. Bromsgrove managed to catch Worcester exposed in defence to take the lead, before player-of-the-match Pardoe struck late in the game.
The Potters romped to a 9-0 victory over the Pippens.
This was a league game supposedly comprising of two teams of equal standard.
Goals from Scott Smith and Daniel Ferrier gave the Potters a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Ferrier went on to complete his hat-trick after the break with further strikers from Joe Cutler, Joe Hughes, Tom Massingham (2) and Owen Taylor. Newcomer Matthew Hind produced some excellent passes.
