EVESHAM men’s firsts secured their opening point of the new season with a hard-fought 4-4 draw at home to Walsall in BodyKraft West Midlands League Premier Division.

In a frantic first-half for Evesham, Walsall quickly went 3-0 up with a spate of easy goals, with the hosts defence struggling to get up to match pace.

However, this sparked the home side into action and they soon began to dominate the play.

Four unanswered goals turned the game on its head, with Matt Baumber, Mark Brown, Stu Harris and Ben Brown all finishing fine passing moves to score.

With the game balanced at 4-3 and only a minute left on the clock, Walsall were awarded a penalty corner.

Evesham keeper Alex Fraser could only deflect the ensuing drag flick into his own net.

The seconds continued their good start to the season with at Old Silhillians and came away with a 3-2 victory.

The success came thanks to goals from captain Frank Lake, Sam Thompson and Pat Gibbs.
