WE will not be getting ahead of ourselves in the Pro40 and will be taking the two remaining games one at a time — but the title is potentially in our hands.
We’ve played some magnificient cricket in this competition and it can be a bit like Twenty20 where one individual performance of brilliance can sway the game in your favour.
We are in a pretty good position now. Vikram Solanki and Steve Davies played magnificently ag-ainst Hampshire and I think it would be right to say they are the best one-day opening partnership in the country on current form.
Why they are not involved in the England set-up at the moment is a mystery to me.
The support from our fans in the against Hampshire was fantastic. There has been plenty of doom and gloom for us this season, but the crowd really got behind us. Hopefully, we can keep our one-day form and go on to win the title and end the season on a high note.
I spoke to the boys a lot, but didn’t see much of the Warwickshire game. Richard Jones put in a fantastic career-best bowling performance in the first innings. He is someone that a lot of the first-team players will agree has made massive strides this season.
Earlier in the season, he had some tough things to do and he showed the character to come back from that. He has been the best bowler I’ve faced in the nets this year. It was never his ability that was questioned, but hopefully he is on the right path now.
His performance against Warwickshire was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing week for us. Warwickshire have found wins hard to come by this season, so to lose twice to them, our bitter rivals, was a tough pill to swallow.
Obviously I can’t comment on what Kabir Ali is doing, because I don’t know the details. All I can say is that he is a fantastic cricketer and is Worcestershire’s most-prized possesion.
He is a player who has a unique ability. A lot of players can potentially be replaced, but you are not going to go out and get someone who can do what he can.
He is widely regarded around the county circuit as probably the best quick bowler who is not playing for England. Why he has not been involved more is a bit of a mystery to us.
It is strange how some people get a run in the England side and how things are viewed at the top end. I am sure that he is spoken about at the majority of England selection meetings — all he can do is to keep taking wickets.
There has been an awful lot of speculation about why some players are moving on from Worcestershire, but only they themselves know the real reasons. From my point of view, I know my reasons and have a clear conscience.
It is a very difficult decision to ask to leave the club, but I am sure Kabir has done it for the right reasons for him.
