AS we head back into the County Championship on Thursday, we must take the belief and confidence from last week.
The disciplines of four-day cricket are very different to Twenty20 and you can’t afford to switch off in any of the 12 sessions.
Having won three games last week in the Twenty20 Cup, individuals are believing in themselves again.
But the most important thing is that we have had a few days to prepare ourselves for four-day cricket.
To go from playing Twenty20 to Championship in the space of 48 hours is tough and I think we have been fortunate to have been given a few extra days to concentrate on changing our game.
We have been struggling in the four-day game both with the bat and the ball. We haven’t got enough runs and we haven’t covered ourselves in glory with the ball either.People will undoubtedly draw comparisons with this team and the last time we were in Division One when we got relegated.
But we have to focus on Thursday. The 11 players selected have to realise that there is a lot of hard work ahead of us to make sure we don’t go the same way.
We started our week in the Twenty20 Cup with a very good win at Bristol on a belter of a pitch. Steve Davies and Vikram Solanki got us off to a magnificent start and to score 102 off the first 10 overs was brilliant.
But Davo and Vik didn’t slog. They played some wonderful cricket shots hitting Gloucestershire out of the ground before a fantastic cameo from Ben Smith at the end.
We then backed it up with the ball and in the field in a match that we dominated.
The win at Bristol allowed us to go into the match against Somerset with a lot of confidence. It was match where we ticked the boxes.
Somerset are a very dangerous side but as a team we pulled together and got the result that we deserved.
Having won two games we went to Cardiff and completely dictated the match.
A lot has been said about the Glamorgan pitch in the past but I have to say it was a pretty decent wicket.
We seem to have found that team dynamic again and we have to take the positives out of the past week into the Championship.
One player who has impressed me during the Twenty20 Cup is Daryl Mitchell. He has been our unsung hero.
He has had to bowl at some difficult times and has done a good job, while with the bat he has contributed some very important runs.
