WORCESTERSHIRE duo Stephen Moore and Steven Davies have been placed on stand-by for England’s tour of India.

Peter Moores’ men landed in Chennai last night for the start of their two-Test series in India after briefly returning home following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The England squad all agreed to return to India after receiving security briefings.

Yet the New Road duo, who were in Bangalore with the England Performance Programme (EPP) squad when the attacks happened, have been told by selectors that they may be required if Kevin Pietersen’s side is hit by injuries.

While the EPP tour was cut short following the atrocities in Mumbai, the squad’s bowlers headed off to Abu Dhabi with the senior players.

But, should the call come, Worcestershire’s opening batsman Moore wouldn’t hesitate to return.

“I would go back, absolutely,” the 28-year-old said. “I think it is good that all players have decided to return.

“You have to show that normal people will not let what happened control their lives.

“Cricket is such a big thing in India and hopefully this tour will show that everyone is together.”

Moore says that he was disappointed that his first EPP tour was cut short last month but is hoping he will get another chance in the new year with the Lions squad that will tour New Zealand.

“There are a couple of training sessions in Loughborough this week and next week that I shall be attending,” he added.

“Then, hopefully, I will be in the Lions squad when it is named just before Christmas.”
