WORCESTER City manager Richard Dryden believes the victory at St Albans can help lift the apathy currently surrounding the club.

Prior to Saturday, City had lost six games out of seven and were almost playing second fiddle to the off-pitch power struggle at St George’s Lane.

But second-half goals from Matt Dinsmore and Craig Wilding at Clarence Park provided City with their second success of the season against the Saints and stopped the rot.

The much-needed success also means there is again a feel-good factor among the squad with their next Blue Square South match a week Saturday at home to Bognor Regis Town.

Dryden said: “We are out of the cups and all we’ve got left is the league. That’s the disappointing thing but we could have been a lot lower at the club if we hadn’t got a positive result at St Albans. The changing room is buzzing.

“We needed a boost of confidence to get us on towards Christmas. It might be a bit of luck not having a game this week but we can have five training sessions instead and get organised for the Bognor game.

“I am happy with how we’ve played the last two games. I was happy with the performance against Chelmsford but not ecstatic as we got beaten. Against St Albans, we were workmanlike and hopefully that’s got us back on track.”

Dryden is delighted to have competition for places and players willing to wait for their chance.

He said: “Although the squad is not very big, anybody is capable of coming in and playing which is quite nice.

“Everybody at the club will be involved unless they become unhappy not playing and then I’ll have to put them on the transfer list and try to change it. But, at the moment, nobody has come to me yet to say they are not happy.”

Meanwhile, City chairman Anthony Hampson is planning to put the catering contracts for the social club and Harry Knowles Lounge out to tender following interest from companies.

The social club was put under intense scrutiny by shareholders at last month’s annual general meeting. It is currently under the jurisdiction of director Jon Prescott but he is due to retire from the club’s board next month.
