HEREFORD United look set to be in the market for new players during the January transfer window.

Manager Graham Turner is disappointed he was not able to strengthen his squad further when the deadline for emergency loans passed at the end of last month.

Goalkeeper Chris Weale and defender Josh Gowling arrived from Bristol City and Carlisle United repsectively but Turner also has designs on a midfielder and striker.

Those deals fell through but the Edgar Street boss admits he is ready to scour the country for more talent at the turn of the year.

He said: “The transfer window opens again on January 1 so we hope to be active in that period.”

Hereford have endured desperately bad luck with their loan signings to date after seeing Moses Ashikodi, Matt Murray, Bruno N’Gotty and Lionel Ainsworth all sustain injuries — some more serious than others.

Keeper Darren Randolph, on loan from Charlton, also left the club in the lurch when he refused to play in an FA Cup match.

Turner said: “The big disappointment of the season so far is the contribution of the loan players that we took earlier in the season.

“That is through no fault of their own, it has just been very unfortunate.

“One of the problems to be taken into consideration is finance.

“We have to continue paying the players’ wages and having to continually add to the squad has been a little cause for concern.

“We have, however, been very prudent over the last few years.

“I have said before we will do nothing to put the club’s future in jeopardy, but feel we can take a chance and increase the squad to make every effort to ensure we survive in League One.”
