MIKE Ruddock will adopt a squad rotation policy before Worcester Warriors resume Guinness Premiership action in a fortnight’s time.
The Warriors director of rugby gave youngsters Alex Grove and Joey Carlisle starts in Bourgoin last night and it will be more of the same when the Frenchmen come to Sixways next Saturday.
The former Grand Slam-winning coach said: “I will rotate the squad. Injuries have dictated that to some extent, but we are conscious we don’t want to go into the Bristol game having taken the same players to the well on every occasion.
“We want to hit Bristol, Newcastle and then Sale in prime form and if we keep pushing every player to the coal-face week in, week out, we won’t be able to do that, so I’ll need to change a few players around.”
Meanwhile, Ruddock has revealed the club have thought about offering hot prospect Matt Mullan, 21, an improved deal.
Although the impressive prop only signed a two-year extension until 2010 in March, Ruddock will be keen to tie him down for longer as he is sure to be one of the most sought-after young forwards in the country.
Ruddock said: “At the moment, we are concentrating on the guys who are coming off contract now, but we would like to consider Matt’s contract after that.
“The guys whose deals are expiring are the ones we need to concentrate on now and, when we’ve sorted that, we can look at the others with regard to what’s left in the budget and the salary cap.
“Matt has signed with us until 2010 and is on an incremental deal which rewards his progress and should keep him motivated. At the moment, he seems to be enjoying his rugby here.”
