STOURPORT Swifts head to high-flying Atherstone Town on Saturday (3pm) looking to build on their new-found confidence.
Neil Hunt’s side ended a seven-game losing streak with a 1-1 draw against sixth-placed Chesham United at Walshes Meadow last weekend.
The result was all the more impressive given Swifts played more than three-quarters of the game with 10 men following John Snape’s red card for using an elbow.
Shane Gill netted the equaliser 17 minutes from time and the much-needed point has got Swifts believing they can get a result at second-placed Atherstone.
The Adders were beaten 3-0 at British Gas Business Division One leaders Leamington last Saturday but scored 21 goals in their previous five league matches.
Swifts player-coach Mark Owen, who joined as part of Hunt’s backroom team last week, said: “We go there with nothing to lose.
“They are the big favourites but after drawing with Chesham there’s no reason why we can’t carry that on with another positive result against Atherstone.
“With our run of form of late, we could have folded against Chesham but we dug in and the second-half was a great performance.
“I know it’s only one game but the squad seemed to have gained a lot of belief. Training was good and we will go to Atherstone with a new positive outlook.”
Swifts have been boosted by the return of Chris Cornes following a one-match ban but will be without fellow midfielder Richard Tomkins, who starts the first of a three-game suspension.
Striker Scott Morris has rejoined from Malvern Town to bolster the attack.
