EVESHAM United manager Paul West is adamant his players will not let their good run spark dreams of promotion.

The Robins are unbeaten in their last eight British Gas Business Premier Division matches and have only conceded three goals in that time.

They were also on course for an eighth clean sheet at Brackley last Saturday before floodlight failure forced the game to be abandoned at half-time.

Cambridge City are the visitors to St George’s Lane on Saturday (3pm) and victory would propel United close to the play-off positions.

However, West says the focus is purely on their visitors, demoted from Blue Square South last season as their ground failed an FA inspection, and not the promotion places.

He said: “It will be a tough game for us because they are a fine side. I am looking forward to a good game of football.

“We are aiming for the play-offs but we are not getting too carried away.

“We realise where we are and we haven’t got some divine right to be punching above our weight.

“What we get we have to work very hard for. Every game is almost a cup final at this level and there are no easy matches. Anything we get out of Saturday will be through a lot of hard work and endeavour.

“As long as I am manager, we can’t get ahead of ourselves. Our motto is to work hard and anything that comes out of that is a bonus.”

West is set to give a debut to Ben Pattison, a youngster on an indefinite loan from Cheltenham Town who can play in defence or in midfield.

Captain Steve Lutz (foot) remains the only player out injured, while striker Gary Hay has returned from America and is available.
