WORCESTER Sixth Form College came from 16 points behind to win their much-anticipated Daily Mail Under 18s Cup fourth round match with city rivals King’s Worcester 25-19.

King’s started brightly and managed to put early pressure on the Sixth Form College.

From this pressure, they took the lead with a well-struck penalty, before scoring a try in the corner. The 8-0 lead was then doubled with another penalty and a try. The setback stung the Sixth Form College into action and, after putting four phases together, Louis Silver crossed in the corner. A penalty soon after cut the deficit to 16-8.The second-half started with Kings extending their lead to 19-8 with a penalty after pressure on the College side’s line.

However, the Sixth Formers hit back when, after being awarded a penalty on the half-way line, a quick tap-and-pass found Andy Short, who scooted over from 40 metres. Ryan added the conversion and the College were back in the game.

A loose kick by King’s ended up in the arms of Short who, from his own half, beat three defenders to score in the corner, giving the College a one-point lead.

With the momentum now firmly in the College’s favour, some good play from a scrum and slick passing saw Jake Rainford score the decisive try. King’s attacked bravely for the remaining five minutes, but brave Sixth Form defence saw them hold on for a fine victory.

The Sixth Form College’s rugby co-ordinator, Matt Sherratt, said: “To go 16 points down against an established side like King’s away from home and come back to win shows how far the boys have come in such a short space of time.”

The Sixth Form College now look forward to a round five tie against Ellesmere College a week today.
