WORCESTER amateur boxers starred at a show in Shrewsbury.

Schoolboy Usman Multoni faced Jordan Williams, of Wrexham, and took control from the start, using his fast jab to pile up the points.

The Worcester boxer’s movement was too much to handle at times and he found his target with both hands throughout.

A fine display of boxing claimed a unanimous points victory.

It took only 20 seconds for Worcester welterweight Craig Bufton to dispatch Wrexham’s Dan Holmes.

Bufton found his range with the first jab and was quick to fire home a solid right to the chin of Holmes.

This was followed by a rapid left which resulted in his opponent’s legs buckling.

The referee jumped in and halted the contest before Bufton broke sweat.

Schoolboy Jon Roberts was involved in an untidy contest with Luke Plant, of Rugeley.

The hard-punching style of Roberts was quickly neutralised by his taller opponent who claimed him as soon as he came into range.

Roberts won the first with well-timed attacks but, as the bout progressed, Plant caught him with straight punches while on the backfoot.

Terrific body shots from Roberts were not enough to impress the judges, who gave the bout to Plant by a majority margin.

Light middleweight Amar Hussain was involved in the best bout with Louis Miskin, of Newtown.

Non-stop punching from both saw Hussain come out on top during most exchanges.

The Worcester boxer’s work-rate was outstanding, almost punching himself to a standstill at the end of rounds two and three.

It came as a total shock to most present when the judges gave the bout to Miskin on a split decision. There was no question Hussain deserved to win but he was denied by controversial scoring from two of the three judges.

Top of the bill was super heavyweight Sam Francis against Ludlow’s Will Haywood.

Francis’ first contest in two years showed with him struggling to find rhythm against a cagey opponent.

Haywood kept his punching to a minimum but was accurate against a ring-rusty Francis.

Fast jabs from the Worcester boy were not enough, which was apparent in the scoring.

All three judges gave the bout to Haywood by a unanimous margin.
