CHAIRMAN Anthony Hampson has outlined his plans to bridge the gap between the directors and fans at Worcester City.

Hampson is due to sit down with the newly-elected board for the first time since Friday’s annual general meeting tonight to assign roles.

The chief aim is to keep supporters informed of the club’s financial position, including that of the much-maligned social club, and get them to communicate with directors via a new website.

“It is important that we do run a transparent management information structure,” Hampson said. “We will be getting the website up and running hopefully in the next two weeks. That website should be the conduit for discussion about the club and I am hoping to involve and engage the supporters.

“I am considering putting the monthly management figures on the website in some form to give a progress report on the financial situation of the club.

“The main discussion (at the AGM) was about the social club, which is run as a separate profit centre.

“I need to split that out from the rest of the figures, which I have yet to do, and that can also be made available to the shareholders and the supporters on the website.

“What I also want to do is try and make the social club the heart of the club, which it should be, and be more welcoming to the supporters from both home and away teams.

“Whether that’s practical or not, I’m not sure yet but there will be plans and there will be a director who will be responsible purely for that social club and upgrading it, funds permitting, and raising its profile.”

The new board is set to meet with the bank tomorrow to discuss the finances at St George’s Lane and Hampson is confident of a positive outcome. He also rejected suggestions the club could be heading for administration.

He said: “The word administration hasn’t been mentioned to me at all. The bank are very supportive.

“The bank seem relieved that something is now happening, they seem more confident now that the new board has been officially appointed by the shareholders.

“They’re also heartened that we now have management systems in place.

“Hopefully we will be able to give them the end of October figures, which we have, and the end of November figures as well.

“They simply want to know what our plans are, like the shareholders and fans do, and they want to know that there is going to be correct corporate governance, which is what we need in this club.

“It seems to have drifted over the years and I don’t think it will actually take a lot to put it back on track.”

The chairman added: “That’s the first phase. The second is to get the supporters coming back through the turnstiles. If we have good results on the pitch then confidence will flow that way as well.

“It’s a two-pronged attack. I’m fairly confident that off the pitch we can move forward. I want to see how on the pitch we can improve our performance.”
