A FIRST win in 10 attempts over Plymouth means Worcester Wolves have now beaten every British Basketball League team at least once.

Wolves moved up to joint sixth for their best BBL placing since joining the premier competition in 2006.

After losing two of their last three games, Skouson Harker’s side were underdogs against Raiders who had won seven matches in a row.

Worcester’s fourth game in eight days appeared to be catching up with them as they began in a subdued manner and slipped 10 points behind.

But outstanding point guard Will Funn ran the game throughout and got Wolves back on track.

Funn finished one rebound short of an amazing triple double as he accumulated 13 points, nine rebounds and 14 assists for the second successive game.

He also stole the ball three times and broke up Raiders’ attacks to provide quick ball for Wolves’ big men at the offensive end of the court. Five other players for the Wolves got into double figures — Harry Disy with 22, Anthony Paez 20, Justin Brown 16, Vidmantis Uzkuraitis 14 and Skouson Harker 12.

They fought back to be only three behind at the end of the first quarter.

By half-time, Wolves were 54-53 in front. For Raiders, Andrew Lasker was in imperious form as he notched 33 points, while Terence Durham made 15 rebounds.

In an even game, the lead changed hands 10 times and Wolves battled hard.

The foul count grew with Paez having to sit on the bench too long for Wolves’ liking as he was on four fouls.

Both Harker and Uzkuraitis collected five each and sat out the remainder of the game.

Wolves opened up a seven-point lead at the end of the third quarter but the hosts showed their fighting qualities to stay in the game.

With a minute left, Lasker made another basket to bring it back to a two-point game.

However, man-of-the-match Funn sealed a huge win with a matching score from the restart.

General manager Susie Hart said: “What a win for Skouson and the whole squad.

“To go to Plymouth and record a first win over one of the most consistent teams in the BBL is a mark of our recent improvement.

“If we can be just a touch more consistent on the road, we will cement a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

“We have two away games next but then a run of five home games over Christmas and the New Year. If we play like this, the sky is the limit.”
