DEFENCE captain Dale Rasmussen admitted Worcester Warriors’ performance in the 23-6 defeat to Saracens wasn’t good enough.

However, following the Guinness Premiership loss at Vicarage Road, the Samoan powerhouse insists the men from Sixways will bounce back to the form which saw them beat Sale and Newcastle in their previous two games.

The outside-centre said: “It was very disappointing and we were off the mark in many different ways. We couldn't develop any momentum and there were too many mistakes — I guess we've just got to draw a line under it and move on. The table has split into two halves now and unfortunately we’re in the bottom half because we didn’t capitalise here.

“It is still possible for us to move up the table — we know what we're capable of and when we can string a few passes together we’ll do much better. For whatever reason, we didn’t get out of first gear.

“We’ve got the European games coming up now and we need to look to make a real mark in that.”

Rasmussen, who was the Warriors’ stand-out player at Vicarage Road, put in a dynamic attacking display, a marked contrast to his normal no-nonsense defensive style.

The Samoan heaped praise on centre partner Sam Tuitu-pou, saying the former All Black gives him more licence to look for holes in opposition defences. He added: “Sammy attracts a lot of attention from other teams, they give him plenty of respect — and rightly so. This often frees up more space for me. I’ve been looking to lift my attacking powers.”

In contrast, Worcester wingers Rico Gear and Miles Benjamin saw little of the ball and Rasmussen blamed this on the elements. He explained: “The weather made it difficult to get the ball out wide, so neither team’s wingers saw much of the ball.

“Getting the ball into space is definitely something we can work on, though.”
