Two mistakes helped Devils lead 4-1 at the interval and Dore moved into goal only to be beaten early in the second period after a mix-up.
Amie Tipper inspired the City fightback with a brilliant volley. Fran Colarossi and Bobbi Spragg both got free of the defence to reduce the deficit to one.
