KIDDERMINSTER Harriers boss Mark Yates has warned his players against complacency when they face Unibond Division One North side Curzon Ashton in the FA Cup second round tomorrow.

The Manchester-based side caused a massive upset in the previous round when they dumped League Two outfit Exeter City out and the Aggborough chief is keen that his Blue Square Premier high-fliers do not go the same way.

Victory for the Harriers would also potentially set-up a clash with one of the Barclays Premier League big boys in the third round.

“Winning would mean so much to the players, the fans and the club,” Yates said. “This is a match that we are all looking forward to.

“But we have to make sure that we go into the game with the right attitude, because if we are sloppy there is a potential for a cup upset.”

Yates says that they haven’t paid the minnows any more attention than they would have done had they been facing a team from the Blue Square Premier or higher.

“We have treated them just like any other team,” he said. “We will go through our game plan with the players today — tell them a little more about the opposition and work on things accordingly.

“Ever since we stepped off the coach on Tuesday night after the Oxford game we have been preparing for this match.”

Harriers will be without leading scorer Justin Richards once again as he continues to recover from an eye injury sustained in the 1-0 victory over Wrexham last Saturday.

Yates, who rested Matthew Barnes-Homer in the 1-0 defeat at Oxford, will have to choose between Darryl Knights, Stefan Moore and Barnes-Homer to lead his attack.

Curzon come into this game having only won once since beating the Grecians earlier this month.

The minnows’ manager Gary Lowe, a former Hereford United midfielder, is confident his side can cause an upset.

“It will be a big stage on Saturday and they have to go and perform and I’m confident they can,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yates has snapped up Kettering Town striker Chris Beardsley on a one-month loan deal.

The 24-year-old, not eligible tomorrow, returns to Aggborough after leaving the club following their relegation from the Football League.
