MALVERN director of rugby Dave Robins hopes his rejuvenated side can take their cup form into the league tomorrow after they won for the first time this season on Saturday.

After a 10-game wait, the Spring Lane outfit finally broke their duck, knocking out holders Chester in the EDF Intermediate Cup with a 21-16 victory.

The win not only delighted everyone at the club but also lifted some of the gloom that had started to descend on Malvern, still without a point this season.

Robins said: “I’m so pleased for the lads and the coaching team.

“Their belief hasn’t wavered through some fairly awful times over the last three months, and we have now given our supporters something to cheer about.

“The game was excellent entertainment, a typical cup tie, but we saw steel in the performance which proved the deciding factor.

“Having beaten the cup holders, the boys are in jubilant mood, but tomorrow it’s back to the coalface as we return to league duty against Bedford Athletic in a bid to secure our first league points and start to haul our way up the table.”
