NATHANIEL Waite could be in line for a place in the starting line-up tomorrow when Bromsgrove Rovers host Arle-sey Town (3pm).

Waite came off the bench as a 72nd-minute substitute to score the injury-time winner in the 2-1 victory over Malvern Town last weekend, adding to his double against Leamington in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

Rovers had failed to score in their previous two British Gas Business Division One Midlands matches and 18-year-old Waite, whose chances have been limited since joining from Halesowen Town, might be the answer to that problem.

He could be joined up front by Dean Craven who also impressed during the senior cup success against Leamington as manager Rod Brown aims to steer Rovers in the direction of the play-offs.

Promotion looks to be the only way the Victoria Ground club is going to play at a higher level after chairman Tom Herbert declared the proposed merger with Redditch United was “dead in the water”.

Any amalgamation would have seen Rovers needing to change their name and Herbert is not prepared to let that happen.

He said: “It might have been nice to move up two divisions and play in the Conference North but the price was too big to pay. So we will have to do it the proper way and win leagues to do so.”

Brown is hoping to have Gresley Rovers captain Carl Slater on board for the Arlesey clash but Bromsgrove skipper Dennis Pearce (hamstring) remains a doubt.
