WORCESTER matchman Ashley Platt turned unfancied peg 154 in Lansdowne Park into a winner when he took first place in a dour fourth round of the WDUAA Winter League.
Needing to take just 2-11-10 to the scales to secure victory, Platt beat the talented 40-peg local turn-out when he netted a number of perch, all caught on worm and caster bait.
Just an agonising two drams short was Mark Roberson, who weighed in 2-11-8.
The Spa Blue man continued his excellent run in the series with another worm-caught perch net from peg 217 in the blockhouse.
Also finding himself in the fancied blockhouse section was canal ace Nick Vaughan, who netted another all-stripey catch going 2-10-8, this time from permanent peg 211.

The top team was Spa Blue with 12 points followed by Penguins on 16 with N&C and Swan tying for third with 17.
Overall, Spa Blue have extended their lead to 54 points, Greenman are second on 68 and N&C third with 70.
The penultimate round is on Sunday at the same venue.
Portobello’s Lol Jameson won his second club match in a row when they visited the wind-lashed Broadheath Fisheries’ Ash Pool.
Like all competitors, Jameson offered sweetcorn bait on a hair-rigged ledger set-up and was rewarded with eight similar-sized carp going 47-5.
Wayne Parkins came second, thanks to a six-fish haul going 27-1.
Netting four carp was Steve Dobbs, who recorded 17-11 for third spot, beating Pete Coldrick, who took one carp weighing 7-11.
Carp ace Rob Wilson won a low turn-out Brockamin Open with excellent winter figures of 57-8, consisting of carp to 18 pounds taken from peg 11.
Second spot went to Dan Coley with 38-12 from peg 22.
The popular Brockamin Fur and Feather will be held on Sunday, December 21.

Greenman’s Nobby Clarke comfortably won the recent Wednesday Open on the Oak Pool at Cob House Fisheries with an all-carp net going 87-10 coming from peg four.
Runner-up was Graham Upton on peg six with 66-1, while Mick Turberfield was third, weighing 59-11 from peg 14.
Former WDUAA match secretary Colin Bennett is enjoying a good run of form at Moorlands Farm, culminating in a win during the Sunday Open on the Moors Pool.
Bennett took just five carp on waggler with corn from peg 12 to record a weight of 25-14.
Pete Archer (Vespe) came second with 15-4, while third was Des Ravenhall (CPA) with 14-12. Also on Sunday was the second round of the silver fish league with Nigel Marchington declared winner with 13-0 of perch and skimmers.
Lee Gardener came second, weighing 12-3, with Mal Watson third with 11-14.
The previous day’s open contest on the Island Pool went to Martin Guest (T&D Elec), who netted 42-10 of carp from the margins of peg 25 on pellet.
Colin Pace came second with 28-3 followed by Mossella man Darren Randle, weighing 26-7.
