KING’S School Worcester won back the Modus Cup from city rivals RGSAO with a 21-7 victory at Sixways.
A bumper 3,800-strong crowd turned up at the home of Worcester Warriors to cheer on the two school teams.
Having lost the annual encounter last season, the King’s team were keen to claim this year’s bragging rights.
Tries from inside-centre Duncan Meikle, left wing Jack Everton and number eight Jack Jeavons-Fellows, as well as two penalties from scrum-half and captain Liam Gwynne secured the victory for King’s.
RGSAO replied with a score from outside-centre and captain Nat McDonald, which was converted by stand-off Bill Harling.
King’s led 13-0 at the half-time interval, but RGSAO started the second period brightly and made the game a real battle.
King’s spokesman Russ Mason said: “It was a close game up until the final quarter.
“There was a titanic struggle in the forwards, but it was the King’s backs that made the difference as they looked to run the ball at every opportunity.
“King’s went ahead early in the game, but the RGSAO team fought back strongly at the beginning of the second-half.
“In my opinion, Liam Gwynne was the difference between the two teams.
“RGSAO won the Modus Cup last year, so it was good for us to turn that around.”
