THREE New College Worcester students shone at the British Indoor Rowing Championship, while their teacher claimed gold.
Luke Almond, Sam Murray and Daniel Wilsher, all 18, tackled the men’s open LTA (legs, trunk and arms) event.
Almond won silver after being pipped by 0.8 seconds, while Murray took bronze and Wilsher was fourth.
The college’s head of PE, Jo Lyons, won gold for the second year in the women’s open HWT (heavyweight) event.
“The boys performed superbly,” Lyons said. “Their achievement was even more impressive because they competed in the open category, while still being eligible for the junior event.
“This event doubled as the first stage of the GB Adaptive Rowing trials and Luke and Sam, who are both eligible for the London Paralympics in 2012, have been invited to attend the second stage of the trials based on their performance.”
