GRAHAM Ward is not renowned for his goalscoring prowess.

The Worcester City right-back has been one of the team’s most consistent performers this season and he was also a mainstay under previous manager Andy Preece.

His work-rate and dogged determination have marked the Irishman out as a reliable component of the team.

However, putting the ball in the back of the net is not something he does on a regular basis.

Ward has not been on the scoresheet since City defeated his former club Burton Albion 2-1 in the FA Trophy second round in January 2007.

His early strike, later doubled by Mark Danks, was one of three goals that season but he has since drawn a blank despite 37 starts last season and playing all 20 games in the current campaign.

“It’s been a long time,” he said. “I think I scored after five or 10 minutes. It was a header from a cross from George Clegg and it was my last goal.”

Ward’s 100 per cent appearance record this season could be under threat from a knee injury when City look to register their first major cup success since the Burton triumph in today’s FA Trophy clash against AFC Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old was hurt in last Saturday’s 2-0 Blue Square South defeat at Thurrock but remains hopeful of playing and helping his team back to winning ways.

City have lost four of their last five fixtures and have only managed two wins since their thrilling 3-2 win against the Dons on October 4.

Ward said: “We have been abysmal. We need a win, eve-rybody is concerned around the camp because we were eighth and three points off the play-offs.

“We are well overdue a win and I don’t care what competition it’s in, a win is a win.”

“We are running out of time as well,” he added.

“If we have any aspirations to make the play-offs or the top 10 we have to be there or thereabouts around Christmas to give ourselves a chance and at the moment we aren’t.

“We were awful against Thurrock and I don’t know why.

“Man for man we have a decent team and we should be winning a lot more games.”
