EVERY manager will tell you that they never look at the league table at this time of year — even if their club are riding high.
After all nothing is won or lost in November.
Yet Kidderminster Harriers boss Mark Yates is delighted that his side is in those coveted Blue Square Premier play-off places as they turn into a hectic December.
With the top tier of non-league pyramid so tight at the summit, the Aggborough side go into this afternoon’s match with in-form Wrexham just four points separate Harriers and leaders Torquay United.
“You have to enjoy it,” Yates said, keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
“The effort we have put in shows that we are more than capable of doing it, but you have to stay focused on the next game.
“I know that I keep saying it but every game in this league is tough.”
After an absence from the Football League of three years, Harriers have never stopped looking for that return.
Cash is tight at Aggborough, chairman Barry Norgrove is still hoping to secure an extra £100,000 a year for the club.
Even though they have won £32,500 from the FA Cup already this term with a further £30,000 on offer next weekend should they beat Unibond Division One North side Curzon Ashton in the second round and the chance to face one of the Barclays Premier League big boys in the next round, Norgrove has said that the money won’t be ploughed back into the playing budget with the cash being utilised on the day-to-day running of the club.
