HAVING completed the first leg of a hectic eight days last night, Worcester Wolves return home looking for revenge against Sheffield Sharks.
Skouson Harker’s British Basketball League play-off chasing side were beaten 89-80 by Sharks in the BBL Cup last month at the University of Worcester and the player-coach is looking to avenge that loss tonight (7pm).
“It was our worst game of the season,” Harker said. “We played Sharks with this new unit with Anthony Paez and Vidmantis Uzkuraitis.
“I think they are a solid side but we are far better than we showed. We really feel we have something to prove in this game.”
Tonight’s clash with the Sharks is the second of four matches in eight days after their visit to MK Lions last night.
Wolves were buoyed by a 107-87 victory over London Capitals last weekend and Harker is looking to build on that result.
“Sharks seem to be pretty balanced which is good. We are up for this one and want to build on our home win this past weekend,” the player-coach added.
The cup match against Sheffield was the first game back for Paez and Sharks coach Atiba Lyons is keen to see how Wolves have developed.
“The Wolves style of play is very different from the way we play,” Lyons said. “Our games are low-scoring affairs and most of their games are in the 100s.
“We played them in the cup early on in the season when they first added Anthony.
“It will be interesting to see how they have gelled since then. I know they have had some big wins and it will be a tough game.”
Sharks won two of the three BBL meetings between the teams last season, splitting their home games with a 92-86 victory in November before losing 97-83 in February.
Then they sealed the head-to-head series with a 99-69 victory against an injury-hit Wolves in April.
The sides also met in the BBL Trophy and Wolves won both games on their way to their first semi-final at the top level of British basketball.
A 125-121 thriller at the EIS meant Sharks had to win by five to progress in the competition but Harker’s team won the game in Worcester 84-81.
