WESTFIELDS drew 2-2 at Shawbury United in a pulsating FA Vase second-round tie to earn a replay at allpay.park tomorrow night (7.45).
Neither side could find a match-winning goal despite extra-time in an exciting end-to-end game.
Fields started at a cracking pace and Jamie Upcott burst through and shot narrowly wide on two minutes.
The Hereford side’s opening goal came in the 15th minute when Mark Hibbard was brought down 20 yards out and Gareth Thomas blasted the ball home off the wall.
Shawbury came back and keeper Jon Pugh made two fine saves from Chris Henry and Simeon Lee.
But the West Midlands League hosts equalised when the defence got in a tangle and Henry swooped on the half-hour mark.
Fields had two chances to regain the lead when top-scorer Mark Davis had a powerful header and low drive saved by keeper Steve Jones.
After the break, Shawbury went ahead when Lee ran clear to finish from Jones’ long kick.
Fields kept battling away and deservedly drew level on the hour when Jones dropped a harmless Paul Allam cross and Upcott tapped home.
In torrential rain, defences remained on top although Davis’ late chip was saved.
Upcott fired wide in extra-time, while Lee was denied by Pugh at the other end.
Scott Jackson and Thomas were in commanding form at the back for Fields, who will try again tomorrow night.
