DANNY Scheppel’s amazing week took an on another turn after he netted the winner to extend Evesham’s unbeaten run to six games in the British Gas League Premier Division.
After his spot-kick miss in the FA Cup last weekend, the midfield man set up the first and scored the second at Stourbridge in midweek before firing in Saturday’s winner.
The Robins were in splendid form in the opening 30 minutes when the points should have been wrapped up. All they had to show for their dominance was Scheppel’s measured finish after 22 minutes after great work from Gary Hay.
The striker, who will miss the next three matches due to a trip to America, left the pitch eight minutes later with a groin strain to be replaced by loan recruit Troy Wood.
The out-of-favour Worcester City man came closest to doubling Evesham’s lead when his 52nd minute volley from Simon Fitter’s cross struck the crossbar.
For all their possession and numerous efforts on goal, Paul West’s men were left hanging on at the finish as Town threatened to snatch an equaliser.
However, a second successive clean sheet, helped by Fitter’s excellent block five minutes from time, propelled the winners into the top half of the table and on course for the manager’s aim of a place in the play-offs.
