AN intriguing three-way battle is opening up at the top of Worcester Table Tennis League Division One.
Pavilion Players edged their way into pole position after maximum-point 8-2 wins against Himbleton ‘A’ and Cripplegate Guild.
Stephane Bonnafous was unbeaten with Margaret Dignum and Lynda Reid also contributing.
Rainbow kept the pressure up on Players and St George’s with an overwhelming 10-0 defeat of Hartlebury Wanderers.
Joe Higgs, Trevor Simmons and Pete Griffiths delivered the goods.
Hartlebury also came away pointless against Cripplegate Guild but were unlucky to lost 8-2.
Lyn Davies let the fifth set slip against Phil Houghton, who remained unbeaten along with Steve Glazzard.
For Jostekeroge, Roy Sinderberry led the charge in overcoming St George’s Dragons 7-3.
In Division Two, St Martin’s beat YMCA Enigma 7-3 and now head the table.
Number one Dave Watton won his three singles and added the doubles with Simon Gibson.
Gibson also contributed two singles wins and Tony Harding chipped in with a victory over Alan Spink.
For Enigma, John Cawthra beat Gibson and Harding, while the latter also lost to Mark Haines.
At the half-way stage in the match between Dukes Way and YMCA Kites, the match stood at 3-3.
The respective number ones Charlie Burford, for Dukes Way, and Dave Williams, for Kites, had each won two singles.
Burford and Vivien Tolley put the Malvern team ahead with a win in the doubles against Ray Griffiths and Ewan Gear before Jackie Chow increased the lead to 5-3 by beating Paul Smith.
Kites fought back with a win by Griffiths over Tolley and Williams ensured the points would be shared when he beat Burford in straight sets.
WGCC proved too strong for Strensham and ran out 9-1 winners.
The lone win for Strensham came in the doubles when Roger Davies and Ian Keetley beat Dave Stevens and Brian Webb.
YMCA Elizabethans had a comfortable 10-0 win against Love City Groove. Only two games in the match were extended beyond three sets.
