IT might be too early in the season to describe the match as a relegation battle, but Hereford United chief Graham Turner knows the importance of tomorrow’s visit of Cheltenham (3pm).
Both clubs have endured torrid starts to their League One campaigns and go into the Edgar Street clash rooted in the bottom four.
Hereford prop up the table with nine points from 15 games, while Martin Allen’s Robins have gleaned just two more points from the same number of fixtures.
The Bulls have also failed to score in their last four league and cup games and have hit the target just once in their last seven outings through loanee Andy Williams’ effort against Carlisle.
Turner is only too aware of the drought currently affecting the team but insists it is important to keep the players’ chins up.
He said: “We have got strikers in the club but the goals have dried up. We want a goal from a midfielder or a goal from a set-play. If nobody is scoring, it just magnifies the problem for the strikers.
“What we have to be careful of is people not losing confidence in their own ability.
“The game tomorrow is vital to us. There’s a lot of football to be played this season but it would do our confidence the world of good if we could get three points.
“It’s important we get a goal or two. I would like to think we are due a slice of luck as we have had decisions go against us and keepers making saves.”
Wolves keeper Matt Murray has arrived on loan and will battle it out with Craig Samson.
Samson was an 11th-hour replacement for Darren Randolph after the Charlton loanee refused to play against Dagenham and Redbridge in the FA Cup last weekend.
The United chief is also looking to add more faces to the squad ahead of the Cheltenham match.
He added: “I am waiting for two answers from Premier League clubs at the moment.”
Hereford have no new injury concerns with striker Moses Ashikodi (hamstring) and defender Richard Jackson (groin) still out.
