EVESHAM lost for the first time in 11 games and in 20 at St George’s Lane when they exited the GX League Cup at the first hurdle 3-0 to Gloucester City.

Fielding only four of the team that defeated Rushden in the FA Cup on Saturday, the Robins fell behind after nine minutes when Karl Nash easily beat Dave Adey after a mistake by Steven Hands.

Gloucester, who defeated the Robins 4-2 at the same stage of the competition last season, doubled their advantage three minutes before the break when Will Morford tapped in from close range with the hosts expecting an offside flag.

Michael Hayden, in an unfamiliar role behind the forwards, brought a fine first-half save out of Kevin Sawyer.

The City stopper prevented half-time sub Danny Scheppel making it 2-1 after 61 minutes.

Allando Davis collected the loose ball but saw a defender clear his shot off the line.

Gary Hay then brought another save out of Sawyer before Adey was beaten for a third time five minutes from time when he was helpless to prevent Nash’s deflected shot sealing Evesham’s fate.

Meanwhile, Stourport Swifts lost 4-3 to Cinderford Town in the cup after extra-time.

Duane Darby (2) and Craig Webb were on target for the hosts, who took the lead three times.

Bromsgrove Rovers’ game with Romulus was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
