NATHAN Crewe and John Connor’s ambition to win every round of the Two Wheel Drive National Gravel Rally Championship ended over a 30-foot drop in Dyfi Forest.
The Oswestry-based event was the final round of the National Championship.
The Silkolene Oils-backed pair had already secured the class title and the Two Wheel Drive Championship within the series earlier in the year.
The Cottrill Transport 1400 MGZR had made a great start in the wet and slippery conditions, gaining a top three Two Wheel Drive position against much larger engines.
Heading out from the Dolgellau Service, the Bromsgrove driver and his Halesowen co-driver set off into stage three.
After only just under one-and-a-half miles of the Dyfi stage the Mintex-backed team ran out of road on a deceptively tight corner, rolling through the tops of the trees and finally coming to rest 30 feet down a drop that was thick with undergrowth.
The car was heavily damaged in the roll, but both crew members walked away without any injuries.
