KARL Broadhurst believes Hereford United’s win against Carlisle is the boost the players need to propel them up the League One table.

On-loan Bristol Rovers striker Andy Williams struck on the hour for the 1-0 victory which, coupled with Yeovil Town’s 3-2 win over Crewe, lifted the Bulls off the bottom of the table.

Graham Turner’s side have now taken four points from their last two matches ahead of today’s visit of Stockport County to Edgar Street and Broadhurst is delighted things are improving.

The 28-year-old defender said: “It’s about time we got a win under our belt, we have done well in the last couple of games. We went to Brighton and got a hard-earned point, our first away point of the season, against a diffficult side. We got our second home victory against Carlisle and it’s a good building block.

“Being on the bottom of the table is not really a nice place to be. I think the lads would be lying if they didn’t have a sneaky look at the table every so often. Psychologically, that could be a little boost for us now we’re off the bottom and hopefully the only way is up.”

As a defender, Broadhurst is employed to keep the goals against column down and the team has now kept two consecutive clean sheets.

The former Bournemouth man said: “We have been working a lot in training on keeping our defensive shape as a team, not just the back-four, and making sure we are hard to break down as a starter and try and play from there.

“Against Brighton we were very resolute but didn’t really create that much but against Carlisle, especially in the second-half, we looked a bit more confident on the ball and looked like our old selves going forward and could maybe have had more goals.”
